MOTHER’S DAY- We celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10 and we hope that all the mothers in our parish community will enjoy the day.  The great love that our mothers show to us is a reflection of God’s own great love and we can hardly do enough to thank them for all that they do for us.  Happy Mother’s Day!

Salvatore for more information. By the way, there are many used copies of the book out there.  Go to Amazon or to BookFinder.com: New & Used Books, Rare Books, Textbooks

RCIA ~ RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS is the process by which people become members of the Roman Catholic Church.  Those who are fourteen (14) years of age and older spend at least seven (7) months in formation consisting of doctrinal, liturgical, practical and apostolic orientation.  At the end of this period of gradual development they are invited to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.  Six adults participated in the RCIA program during 2014/15 and we will begin the 2015/16 process on Monday, September 14, 2015, the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.  Those who may be interested must see Brother Salvatore before Sunday, June 28, 2015.  Call 845-255-5635 Extension 107.

CAPUCHIN RAFFLE- The Capuchin Province of St. Mary, of which our friars here at St. Joseph’s are members, will be holding a raffle to raise funds for the many and varied ministries that the Capuchins support in New York and New England and beyond.  On the weekend of May 23/24, raffle tickets will be available for sale and each ticket costs $10 (6 tickets for $50).  The top prize is $3,500; the second is $1,000, and third is $500.  Take a chance and you can possibly win some money while at the same time helping the good work of the Capuchins.
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FESTA- Our annual Festa is our parish’s most important fundraiser and it needs many volunteers to make it happen.  The Festa will be held from Thursday, July 16 through Saturday, July 18 but there will also be work to do before and after (set-up, break-down, food prep, etc.)  Please consider helping us out this year by becoming a volunteer- it’s a great way to show your love for this parish family, to build community and to have some fun being with your fellow parishioners.  More details to come soon.
HELPING HANDS MINISTRY:  Since January 31, 2014, 13 parishioners have cared for the homebound in our community.  Moved by the Lord’s desire that we serve one another (Matthew 25:35-40), these volunteers cleaned, cooked, shopped and socialized for more than 257 recorded hours.  At the present time the number of requests for help exceed the number of available volunteers.  Please see Brother Salvatore if you would like to learn more about this ministry of caring for the homebound.
SHARE YOUR STORIES OF THE CAPUCHINS- How have the Capuchins made a difference in your lives?  How have they enriched your life of faith and your experience of belonging to this parish community?  Please let us know your thoughts on this topic and send them to Fr. Salvatore at salccapuchin@hotmail.com.  We will post them on our Capuchin province’s website dedicated to the Year of Consecrated Life.  And we’ll let you know soon how we will celebrate this special year in our parish.  http://yearofconsecratedlife-provinceofstmary.com/

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY- We will soon begin exploring ways to reach out more to the young adults in our area and get them involved in this parish community.  (“Young adults” can refer to anyone in their early twenties to about 40 years old.)  For now, please go to www.facebook.com/HVCatholicYoungAdults to see what is happening around the Hudson Valley with social events and ministry opportunities for young Catholics.  And if you’re no longer a “young adult” yourself please pass this information to the ones you know and love.
CENTERING PRAYER DVDs- One of our parishioners will be presenting a series of six DVD’s that explain the traditional technique of Centering Prayer.  Each session will include the opportunity to practice this way of prayer.  The sessions will take place on Tuesdays and they will be held in Room #4 of the parish center and will last from 9:45-11:00.
