SMART SHOPPER CARDS – DEBIT CARDS FOR HANNAFORD, SHOP RITE AND STOP & SHOP: Envelopes are available in the Church for parishioners to obtain Smart Shopper Cards. Parishioners desiring a card(s) please complete the directions given on the envelope. Please deposit the envelope in the box located in the front vestibule of the church. The envelopes containing your order will be filled on Mondays and will be available for pick-up at the Parish Office from Tuesday to Friday (9:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.) or they may be picked up in the front vestibule of the Church the following weekend after the Masses. Smart Shopper Cards will continue to be available at the Parish Office during office hours. For every one hundred dollar ($100) smart shopper card used, the parish receives five dollars ($5.00) This is a wonderful contribution to our church at no cost to those who use the smart shopper card. The cards are available in $20, $50 & $100 amounts. The purchase of Smart Shopper Cards are not only available to all our parishioners but for everyone who would like one.  The cards can also be given as gifts. Imagine the benefit to the parish if all our parishioners were to purchase their food by using a Smart Shopper Card.

PARISH PAY PROGRAMEASY AS 1, 2, 3!  This automated Giving Program is now available to parishioners who would like to use it.  You no longer have to be concerned about catching-up missed offertory donations, and allows St. Joseph’s to better project its monthly budget to ensure wise allocation of resources.  Parish Pay will collect monthly contributions from your checking, saving, or credit card account.  There is NO cost to participate in the program.  Please go to www.parishpay.com to enroll on line. Please be sure to have all your information ready to input, as well as your envelope number.

RCIA 2013/2014:  We will begin the new RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program on Monday, September 9th.  This program is for those interested in learning about the Catholic Faith.  It welcomes those who have no particular faith affiliation or those who belong to a non-Christian faith group.  In addition it serves those baptized in a Protestant Church and, finally, baptized Catholics who never received Holy Communion and/or Confirmation.  Please contact Brother Salvatore for more information and registration.

 SPRING PLANTING AND THE FOOD PANTRY:  When planting your vegetable garden consider setting aside a row of veggies for the pantry and bring your harvest in for distribution to the needy.

 FAMILY PASTORAL VISITATIONS: Fr. Bernard, Fr. Salvatore and Deacon Salvatore will be scheduling family pastoral visits. The visits may take place in the home or at the Parish Center. The clergy will begin their visitations with families who register their children for the parish Religion Education Program. The visits will comprise: a review and update of the Parish Census Form (for the purpose of getting to know the family); to share the family’s insights regarding their faith in Jesus (their sense of belonging to His Church) and to share insights regarding the faith formation of their children.

 SAVE THE DATE FOR ST. JOSEPH’S VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL   WHEN:  Monday June 24 –   Friday June  28,  2013 9:45 am till 1:00 pm.  WHERE: St. Joseph's Parish Center.  WHO: all children ages 4 years old through 6th grade.  COST: donations, collected daily to cover cost of books, materials, art supplies and paper.  Share in music, crafts, games, activities and Bible Stories.  DIRECTOR:   Tracie Phillips, VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: Martha at 255-5572 or e-mail   martha_koenig@juno.com.   *-7th and 8th graders preparing for Confirmation, High School and College students and adults welcome to volunteer.  VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL PLANNING MEETINGS :   Monday evenings, June 10 and June 17.  Parish Center   6pm till 8pm.  Contact Martha at martha_koenig@juno.com  or 255 5572   to volunteer

 FESTA 2013:  It’s that time of year again when we begin recruiting for workers for our Annual Italian FestaSt. Joseph’s Festa will take place July 18, 19 and 20th, from 6-11pm.  It takes 200 people per shift per day to cover all of our working areas and we hope that you will be able to help us out with a shift or two.  If you worked with us last year, you will be receiving a sign-up form by mail, those of you who would like to work this year, please pick up a sign-up form in the vestibule of the Church.  This is the largest fundraiser for our Church and we encourage everyone to volunteer!  For further information, please call the Parish Office at 255-5635, ext. 101.

 ALTAR SERVERS: all those presently in the 7th grade through junior year of high school are asked to attend a meeting in Church on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:30 AM. An update will be given to all followed by a training session for those who are new Senior Servers. Please mark your calendars.  

DISCOVERING CHRIST PROGRAM HELP WANTED   A great inspiring program is coming to St. Joseph’s every Sunday evening starting October 6th through November 17th.   This seven session event has transformed lives through thought provoking questions like “What Is The Meaning of Life” or “Why Is The Resurrection Important”.  Have you been looking for a way to participate in a meaningful way during this “Year Of Faith”?  Why not join the Discovering Christ team.  Help is needed to present this program.  There are many ways to be involved which will be discussed at the information night.  You don’t need to have gone through the Discovering Christ program to be involved. 

 Some areas of help needed are :

1)  hospitality … every session begins with a light meal shared by the participants.  We need help organizing the food, cooking, serving, cleaning up.

2)  table hosts … people who can make the participants feel welcome and encourage then to take part in the table discussions.

3)  publicity group … people who can get information the various sources advertising the program to our church and community.

4)  data keepers …  people who like administration duties like registering participants, developing program handouts, name tags, attendance records.

5)  music … singers and instruments to help lead participants in brief worship before and after session.

6)  service team … set up facilities with tables and chairs, podium, A/V and PA systems.

CAPUCHIN FRANCISCANS – PROVINCE OF ST. MARY: instituting a program for high school students who may be thinking of becoming a religious Priest or Brother. It will include a monthly meeting with other students, private and communal prayer, a vocation presentation, opportunity for work with the poor and social activities.  WORLD MARRIAGE DAY, February 10, 2013 – Longest Married Couple Search:  The search begins for the longest married couple in the Archdiocese of New York! To enter, couples must be sacramentally married for a minimum of 65 years and reside in the Archdiocese of NY. The longest married couple(s) will be honored on Sunday, February 10th at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at the 10:15 AM mass with a reception to follow.  FUNERAL CHOIR:  If you like to sing and have the time, St. Joseph’s has a choir that specifically sings for funerals.  If you would like to participate, please call the Parish Office at 255-5635 to have your name included on the call list. 

ARE YOU REGISTERED IN THE PARISH?  DO YOU RECEIVE ENVELOPES?  One way to find out is with a phone call to the Parish Office at 255-5635, X101.  All parishioners who attend on a regular basis should be registered, as well as any family participating in the Religious Education Program, or you are sending your children to an area Catholic School.  We are in the process of updating our records and we would like to be sure everyone is a registered parishioner.

INVITATION - BRING TO CHURCH A NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEM OR A MONEY DONATION FOR FOOD:  place the food item in boxes located in the vestibules of the church or the money donation for food in the collection basket clearly marked For Food. A representative number food items will be brought to the altar at the presentation of gifts time of Mass. Food pantries are experiencing a shortage of food including our Parish Food Pantry. Whatever help you can give will be appreciated greatly.
