Pope Francis has asked that the Church reflect together on synodality, which to quote Cardinal Tobin of the Archdiocese of Newark, is "the process of listening to the Holy Spirit and to each other in order to discern the path we must walk together- making pastoral decisions that reflect the will of God, grounding them in the living voice of the People of God.” Which is a beautiful and holy thing, and one that we should all have a say in what that means in practice. The hope is that this will help to make the Church a more “listening” and pastoral Church, and to this end all the dioceses throughout the world will be asked to reflect on what this means on the ground and how this can be realized. This reflection will be at the parish and diocesan levels and will culminate in the gathering (synod) of the bishops in October 2023. So to this end, here at St. Joseph’s we will a listening session in which we will have a conversation about what you’re thinking and feeling about the Church- the universal Church- and how you think it can be more the Church that Christ wants it to be. It will be on Saturday, March 12 at 10:00 A.M. in the church hall. All are welcome to attend. Just note that this will not be a venting session- rather, it will be an open sharing of what we hope for the Church as it faces new challenges in the world and as it continues to be faithful to what God wants for it.
